Mr. Flaherty is a former Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice, retiring in 2015. Prior to his judicial appointment he was in private practice for 16 years and then spent 10 years as Senior Counsel with the Department of Justice, Canada. He was lead counsel in many leading cases, with over 40 of them reported. He conducted proceedings overseas, in Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Guyana, as well as the United States. He was president of a large condominium corporation in Toronto. Mr. Flaherty successfully prosecuted Simpsons-Sears Ltd. for misleading advertising: resulting in a $1,000,000.00 fine. His practice areas include family law, criminal law, civil litigation, tax evasion, human rights, etc.
Mr. Flaherty is currently an arbitration and mediation panelist with ADR Chambers in Toronto. He is also a life member of the Law Society of Ontario, and a member of the Canadian Arbitration Association, the Canadian Mediation Association, and the Canadian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.
